#VALT2016 Runway Fees:

Professional Designers = $50/Look

Vancouver Alternative Arts & Fashion Week provides a professional, well appointed venue, a sound system, models, makeup artists, hair stylists, marketing, and awareness. As a featured designer at VALT, all you absolutely need to bring is yourself and your completed garments! We take all the guesswork out of presenting a fashion show, while providing the space, the crowd and all of the details. With VALT, you can promote yourself and your brand without having to rent, staff, organize or advertise anything (though we do encourage you to invite guests and publicize as time permits!), all at a lower rate than most large-scale fashion events in Canada.

Application to #VALT2016 is a 3-step process.

Student/2016 Graduate Participation Fee Discounts 

All students/2016 graduates selected to show their fashion collections at #VALT2016 pay a discounted rate per outfit - $40 per look, rather than the $50 per look. Note that we will accept Design Collectives at the student rate if one or more of the designers are students.

To be able to participate at this rate, students and recent grads MUST provide a scan of their most recent student ID, uploaded to the dropbox along with supporting materials.

 

Student/2016 Graduate Designer Competition

After applicants have been selected for participation, the #VALT2016 Jury will select a collection created by a current Student or 2016 Graduate from any school (and any program - enrolment in a fashion design program is not required), to be a focal collection at #VALT2016, with all participation fees waived.

The selected designer and the school that they attend/attended will receive a profile on VALT.ca, mention from the MC during the event, and be included in Press Releases and VALT-related interviews.

 

Collection Requirements 

While professional designers are required to submit a minimum of 10 outfits/looks per collection, students and recent grads only need to reach a minimum of 5 outfits/looks per collection to show at #VALT2016.

  • Cheque (made out to Style, Entertainment, Art & Media Society - SEAMS) if applying by mail, to be mailed with application.
  • Paypal (submitted to SEAMS.BC@gmail.com).

2.  Submit your Supporting Materials:

Dropbox is a free, easy to use service. Sign up for a free account, follow their easy tutorial, and "share" your completed application folder with apply@VALT.ca.

What we need from you:

Please use/share a folder that has your Name/Brand/Collective in its name.  Example: "VALT2016-Application-Magdelina"

Include the following in the folder:

Logo

  • JPEG or PDF
  • High resolution for printing.  Minimum 300 DPI
  • Minimum size 2x2 inches – maximum size 10x10 inches.
  • White or black background.  Do not include photos.  Preferably contains less than 4 colours.
  • Use our file naming convention:

5-10 Portfolio Images of your most recent or current collection

  • JPEG
  • Photos/Illustrations must be colour, high resolution (minimum 300 DPI)
  • Minimum size 2x3 inches – maximum size 8x12 inches.
  • Photos can be simple on-mannequin, self-modelled, or flat shots of garments.
  • Illustrations may be drawn by hand or digitally rendered.

2-5 Promotional Images

  • Saved in JPEG format
  • Photos must be high resolution (minimum 300 DPI)
  • Minimum size 2x3 inches – maximum size 8x12 inches.
  • Photos should not be branded with logos, and should be of editorial quality for print publications.

3.  Fill out the Application Form

By submitting an application, you herby agree to the following terms

• All applicants agree to the rules and regulations set out by VALT.
• All applicants must submit a fully completed application form and entry fee (Early Bird: $20, Final Deadline: $30).
• Applicants may submit work for more than one category, as separate applications.
• Application materials will not be returned. Please do not submit original work.
• VALT will provide the location in which work will be presented and will promote accepted designers to the media.
• VALT reserves the right to cancel any of the categories if there are not a sufficient number of applicants and has the absolute discretion to refuse any applicant, decline any participation or withdraw any entries from the event at any time.
• VALT reserves the right to withdraw accepted applicants if the final artwork / collection is not up to standard (unfinished, unprofessional, inadequate fit, etc.).
• The applicants shall be solely responsible for the costs of production, maintenance, safety and good condition of his/her work at the
event, and VALT shall not be held liable for any loss or damages of the work submitted for the event.
• It is the responsibility of the designers to provide all outfits and appropriate accessories for models, including shoes. (Designers may request models provide shoes but VALT will not be held responsible if they are not the aesthetic desired by designers)
• VALT will select a varied range of models based upon gender, size, ethnicity, aesthetic, etc. VALT will do its best to provide appropriate models for each designer based upon their collection; however, VALT reserves the right to final model selection.
• All additional promotional material that the designer chooses to distribute, such as press packages and invitations relating solely to their show, must be provided by the designer.
• Design, art and music ownership shall be vested with the designer/artist/musician.
• VALT reserves the right to use all entries and documentation for promotional or publicity purposes before or after the event.
• Runway fees will be charged for each outfit that will be featured on the runway. This fee covers the production of your runway show and includes the venue, make-up, hair styling, models, fittings, tech, lighting, and the promotion of each show to the public, press and buyers. A minimum of 10 outfits must be shown by professional designers to participate at a cost of $50 per outfit (Example: 10 outfits = $500, etc.) or a minimum of 5 outfits must be shown by current students and 2016 graduates at a cost of $40 per outfit (Example: 5 outfits = $200, 10 outfits = $400, etc.). Do not submit this runway fee with your application. Selected designers must pay a $200 deposit before June 30, 2016 to confirm their participation in #VALT2016, with the balance of their runway fees (if applicable) due at their scheduled fitting date in October.  The highest quality student/2016 grad application will be selected by the jury to participate in #VALT2016 free of charge, and will also be notified of this in June 2016.
• All applicants will be notified regarding their acceptance before May 30th, 2016 by phone and email.
